Week 1: The Andes and Sacred Valley Adventures

Day 1-3: Lima Arrival and City Exploration

Start your trip in Lima, Peru’s capital, where modern life meets colonial history. Spend a day exploring the historic center, including Plaza Mayor and the San Francisco Monastery. For a taste of local life, visit the Miraflores district with its parks and ocean views.

  • Try ceviche at a local restaurant

  • Walk along the Malecón cliffs overlooking the Pacific Ocean

  • Visit the Larco Museum for pre-Columbian art

Day 4-7: Cusco and Sacred Valley

Fly to Cusco, the gateway to the Andes and Inca culture. Spend a day acclimatizing to the altitude (3,400 meters) before heading into the Sacred Valley.

  • Explore Pisac’s colorful market and Inca ruins

  • Visit Ollantaytambo fortress, a well-preserved Inca site

  • Take a day trip to Moray’s circular terraces and the Maras salt mines

This region offers excellent hiking and cultural experiences. Consider a horseback ride or mountain biking through the valley for an active day.

Week 2: Hiking the Inca Trail and Machu Picchu

Day 8-11: Inca Trail Trek

The classic Inca Trail is a 4-day trek leading to Machu Picchu. It requires a permit booked months in advance but rewards with stunning mountain scenery, cloud forests, and ancient ruins along the way.

  • Day 1: Start at km 82, hike through Andean landscapes to Wayllabamba

  • Day 2: Cross Dead Woman’s Pass, the highest point at 4,215 meters

  • Day 3: Visit ruins like Runkurakay and Phuyupatamarca

  • Day 4: Arrive at Machu Picchu early morning for sunrise

If the Inca Trail is fully booked, alternative treks like Salkantay or Lares offer equally spectacular views and cultural encounters.

Day 12-14: Machu Picchu and Aguas Calientes

Spend a full day exploring Machu Picchu’s terraces, temples, and viewpoints. Climb Huayna Picchu or Machu Picchu Mountain for panoramic views if you want extra adventure.

Afterward, relax in Aguas Calientes’ hot springs or explore the town’s markets before returning to Cusco by train.

  • Take guided night walks to see nocturnal creatures

  • Visit local indigenous communities to learn about their traditions

This part of the trip offers a complete change of pace and environment, perfect for nature lovers and wildlife photographers.

Day 19-21: Lake Titicaca and the Floating Islands

End your adventure in Puno, on the shores of Lake Titicaca, the highest navigable lake in the world. Explore the Uros floating islands made of totora reeds, home to indigenous communities.

  • Take a boat tour to Taquile Island for hiking and cultural shows
